The School Day

At Nythe Primary School, we provide a total of 32.5 hours of education in a typical week. Each day, the playground gate opens at 8:40am and parents are encouraged to send their child straight to their class, where their teacher will have a morning task waiting for the children to complete. This is usually a quick 10 minute task to get the children thinking. It allows the teachers time to talk to every child and give them a positive start to their day.  All children should aim to arrive in their class by 8.50am. The playground gate closes at 8:55am and any children arriving after this time should enter the school via the office so an adult can ensure that they are marked as present on the register, which closes at 9:00am.

Please note the gates will never be opened before 8.40 am and there are no members of staff available to supervise your child before this time. We therefore ask you not to send your child to school before 8:40 am, or to leave them unsupervised in the school grounds at any time.

The school day finishes at 3:10pm. The playground gate is opened at 3:05pm each day for parents to make their way to their child’s class to collect them at 3:10pm. Any children who have not been collected by 3:20pm, when the playground gate is closed, will be cared for in the school office until they are collected.

We ask parents to leave their children at the classroom door. We want the children to independently hang up their coats and put their things away. We also want the children to have time with their teachers to enable a positive start to the day.

Teachers are always available at the end of the day for an informal chat or to make an appointment for a specific meeting.
