Eating and playing together are important parts of the school day for our children. All of our meals are produced at another local primary school, Liden Academy, and delivered fresh to us each day. Lunch consist of a main meal and a pudding and meets all the national food quality standards. Families can choose whether to send in a packed lunch and drink to have at lunchtime or to have a hot meal provided.
All school meals must be ordered online, via parent MCAS accounts. School meals cost £2.70 each, unless you are entitled to free school meals, and must be ordered online by Wednesday for the following week. Meals for children attending nursery are £1.95. We are unable to accept any late orders after the cut off and a lunchbox will need to be provided.

Allergens are indicated on the menu in bold using the codes below:

Parents are responsible for checking the allergens on the menu prior to ordering. If your child has any specific allergens/dietary requirements, please inform the school office in writing. Your child will then be provided with a yellow lanyard with the requirements stated on them to wear during the lunch service.
Throughout the lunchtime session the children are supervised by our Midday Supervisors, some of whom are also Teaching Assistants, bringing classroom knowledge of the children to their midday break. Each class has an allocated Midday Supervisor who ensures that any incidents that take place during lunchtime are communicated with the Class Teacher.
Universal Infant Free School Meals
All children in Reception, Y1 and Y2 are eligible for Universal Free School Meals. We are keen to encourage all the children to have school lunches, as research shows that having a good lunch helps learning and concentration.
Free School Meals
You may be entitled to free school meals if you are in receipt of certain benefits. These include Income Support, Income based Job Seekers Allowance and Child Tax Credit, amongst others. Even if your child is in KS1, please apply as the school receives additional funding (Pupil Premium) for every child entitled to income related free school meals and we may be able to issue vouchers to you to support the provision of meals to your child during school holidays. You can ask at the school office for a form, or you can apply online here.
Children who receive the Pupil Premium are also entitled to free milk every day. If you wish your child to have this milk, please let us know in the school office.
Snack
Reception, Y1 and Y2 receive daily fruit from the government scheme – there is no need to send in anything else.
Years 3 – 6 Please bring in a piece of fruit or vegetable only. No sweets, chocolate, crisps or nuts.
Milk
Milk is provided free of charge to all children under 5. Children over 5 can sign up to the CoolMilk scheme where the parent will pay just £18 per term to get their children milk every day. You can sign up by clicking on this link. Milk is offered free to all children who receive free school meals. Please ask at the school office for details.
Water Bottles Are Welcome in Classrooms
It is very important to drink plenty of water as this helps our brains work better. At Nythe Primary School, we encourage children to bring in a named water bottle to use during the day. Only water should be drunk regularly in this way.
Children may drink squash, juice or milk at lunch time if parents wish. Water is available at lunchtime for all children.
